Rescue dog is a real star

A rescue dog called Bessie has triumphed in a nationwide search to find the Star Performer of the Year.
The award was launched by Alpha Feeds to help recognise the many dogs that are stars in their owner’s eyes and the judges were unanimous when they read owner Marie Matthews and Bessie’s story.
Based in Sheffield, Marie and Bessie have formed a real bond, with the little dog helping Marie to cope with her health problems.
Bessie is an 11-year-old rescue dog, who Marie has owned since she was only eight-weeks-old. Marie refers to Bessie as just your ordinary dog, not especially talented but her best friend, something most dog owners can relate to.
Bessie was crowned the Alpha Feeds Star Performer of the Year for the help and support she gives Marie who has ME and other health problems which cause Marie pain, fatigue and further symptoms which can make her days difficult to get through.
Bessie received the Alpha Feeds Performer of the Year Trophy, a year’s supply of Alpha Feeds dog, lead and towel, while Marie received an Alpha Feeds fleece.
