TV ad tackles cat stress

CEVA Animal Health is launching a TV advertising and marketing campaign aimed at raising awareness of feline stress.
It will run until later this month on ITV1, ITV2 and ITV3, so within a reach of 3.2 million cat owners.
Footage will feature an animated character, ‘That Purple Cat’, created to help educate owners in an amusing way.
A range of merchandising material has been produced to support the campaign, including ‘As seen on TV’ tent cards, shelf wobblers and ‘We stock Feliway’ window stickers.
A pre-filled counter display unit is available for both Feliway for cats and DAP for dogs.
“Most owners are unable to recognise signs of stress in their cats, with people mistaking behaviours such as scratching, aggression, urine spraying and excessive grooming as normal,” says Fabienne Maçon-Slater, sales and marketing manager for the retail sector at CEVA Animal Health.
“The new TV advertising and marketing campaign will educate cat owners to recognise and interpret these signs and highlight the benefits of using Feliway to comfort and reassure cats at times wen they show stress.”

"Excellent idea! I've encountered one or two people who were actually considering getting rid of their cat because of problem behaviours which they saw as "naughty" but were actually stress based. When the stress was removed the problem behaviour did too. Even without any problem behaviour a cat can be feeling stressed and unhappy and the loving owners can be completely oblivious of it. That a cat can be stressed just doesn't occur to a lot of people. Educating cat owners to understand and recognise feline stress would be wonderful."
