My cat is extremely hyperactive! I am going away and my mother will be coming to the house to cat sit for me. I am conscious that my kitten, Dolly, will be a handful for her. Are there any herbal supplements I can give to calm my kitten down?
Holly says: In terms of herbal remedies for cats, the main problem will be getting your cat to take them! However, you could equip your mother with an array of new toys, including some catnip ones, that will keep your kitten occupied. Your mother can also help your kitten to settle by adding 2-4 drops of Bach Rescue Remedy to her water bowl. This is a flower essence that can help animals (and people) to cope with potentially stressful situations.
Finally, the natural pheromone that cats produce when they rub their faces and bodies on things to help them to feel safe is now available as a synthetic version from the vets’, called Feliway. This can be bought as a spray or a plug-in diffuser and would be well worth setting up for while you are away.
