The Pet Industry Federation (PIF) has launched an online Covid-19 course for pet professionals designed to provide them with information about the virus and to help their business operate safely, now that the Government restrictions are gradually being eased.

The Disease Control for Pet Professionals certificate has been developed by industry specialists and will help pet businesses meet the hygiene and social distancing protocols required, as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

The course covers the following areas:

  •  Viruses and prevention care
  • Risk assessments
  • Health and safety at work
  • Animal Welfare Act & environmental protection considerations
  • Transporting animals and handover protocols
  • Professional practice guidance for pet retailers, dog walkers, dog day care, kennels, home boarders and catteries

Vicky Skinner, PIF’s head of education explained: “This new course will help pet businesses keep themselves, their staff and their customers safe by providing knowledge and information about the virus, how it’s spread and what measures can be implemented in the workplace to lower the risk of transmission. It’s ideal for any pet professional who is looking for advice and guidance on how to provide a safe environment and a reassuring service to their customers.”

The course is free to PIF members and is £20 to non-members.

Upon completion of the COVID-19 course, candidates will be awarded a downloadable certificate to show their customers they have completed the course.
