The programme is an independent validation from trainers aims to boost retail support and product sales

The Dog Trainer School (TDTS) has introduced the Dog Trainer School Recommended Product mark, recognising pet products that meet professional standards in real-world training and handling environments. The programme is designed to give retailers a clear, trustworthy quality signal that translates to confident purchases, stronger POS stories, and informed staff recommendations. Evaluations are carried out by working dog trainers and pet professionals across the UK, using a transparent, criteria-based scoring framework.

First testing round: trainer-tested products already on shelf

The inaugural phase recognised multiple products already selling through in retail, here’s what our testers said:

  • Tug-E-Nuff – Fauxtastic Powerball Bungee
High-engagement tug with cushioned bungee, durable faux-fur target and secure handler grip, built for repeated reps and motivation.

  • No Fuss Fill – SkooGo® Gloves
Reliable wet-weather grip for leads/long lines; fingerless dexterity and a practical pocket, trainer-friendly through winter.

  • My Anxious Dog – Squeezy Reward & Affiliate Pack
Clean, one-hand reinforcement plus clear, welfare-aligned #DogsInYellow owner communications.

  • DotDotPet – Eco Biodegradable Towels & Conditioning Dog Shampoo
Super-absorbent, “grab-and-go” towels that cut laundry; controlled-flow shampoo with quick lather/rinse for efficient clean-down.

How the mark is awarded (and why it matters to retail)

Products are scored on: usability, welfare alignment & clarity of instructions, durability & clean-down, value for money, and a firm “would you recommend to clients?” threshold.
Approved products may display the Dog Trainer School Recommended Product badge for 12 months, followed by reassessment to maintain integrity—keeping the mark credible for consumers and retailers.

“My background at the Good Housekeeping Institute taught me to test products independently and repeatably,” said Helen Wainwright, Co-Founder of TDTS. “When a product is Dog Trainer School Recommended, retailers can brief staff with confidence, this kit has been proven in the messy reality of training: rain, mud and busy classes.”

“The TDTS Recommended logo helps brands stand out on shelf,” added Lee Hobbs, Co-Founder of TDTS and Dog Trainer. “We began with smaller, independent brands to give them a lift, championing welfare-aligned products that genuinely work in practice.”
