Leading pet food brand Webbox is supporting StreetVet, an animal welfare charity that has launched an accreditation scheme that is encouraging hostels used by homeless people to accept pets.
The scheme offers training and support to encourage hostels to welcome pets and aims to make it so that homeless people do not have to choose between a roof over their heads or their pets. The first pet-friendly hostel for the homeless to be accredited through the scheme has already been awarded to a hostel in Hemel Hempstead.
Established in 2016, StreetVet provides support for homeless pet owners who cannot afford private veterinary treatment, offering the peace of mind in the case of a veterinary emergency. It also offers routine healthcare through their outreach programmes.
Webbox has supported StreetVet with regular pet food donations for the charity’s nationwide outreach programme since 2017. The pet food brand has also pledged to continue its support by providing ‘Forever Home Packages’ for those individuals who manage to secure a hostel place with their pet or a permanent home.
Julie Butcher, head of marketing at Webbox, said: “We are so excited to see the launch of the first StreetVet Hostel and are so proud of the hard work from the StreetVet team, who continue to provide invaluable support to homeless people and their pets.
“We hope that our donations of pet food can continue to offer support to pet owners within the hostel, who may worry about not being able to feed their pets as well as themselves.”
