Beaphar launches new reduced lactose milk replacer for small animals.

Global pet healthcare and pharmaceutical manufacturer, Beaphar, have added a new milk replacer specifically tailored to the needs of newborn and orphaned small animals to their product range.

“We have a very long history with formulating high quality milk replacers for puppies and kittens under our Beaphar Lactol brand, and we are very excited to have now developed a product which is ideally suited to the needs of other small animals”, says Dr Sue Huggett, business manager, Beaphar UK.

Beaphar Small Animal Milk has been formulated with a very low lactose level of just 1.1%, which is significantly lower than other milk replacers on the market.

“This low lactose level is incredibly important because many small animals are lactose intolerant”, explains Dr Huggett. “Alongside this, Beaphar Small Animal Milk is made using whey protein isolate, and so contains high-quality, easily digestible proteins. It also has a very high fat content, so it resembles their mother’s milk as closely as possible to support optimum growth and development.”

As well as being ideal for hand-rearing abandoned or orphaned small animals, the product can also be used during weaning, and as a conditioning food for pregnant, nursing, sick or convalescing small animals.

Beaphar Small Animal Milk is suitable for rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchillas, mice, rats, gerbils, hamsters, degus and hedgehogs.
