There is a survey for owners and non-owners about how rabbits are cared for

Despite being one of the UK’s favourite pets, many rabbits live a life of suffering due to common misconceptions about their welfare needs. There is currently little official research that fully showcases just how intelligent they really are. But many experts believe that some can be as clever as dogs and there is no shortage of rabbit owners who will testify to that claim. Yet so many are housed alone (they should always be kept in pairs), with little or no stimulation and in hutches that are way too small.

This survey is part of a wider campaign from @the_rabbit_welfare_association to drive change in breeder legislation at a government level. It’s helping them formulate a much clearer idea of how much people really know about rabbits. They may be as intelligent as dogs yet are not covered by the same level of welfare standards or breeder licensing protection. The hope is that if people understand these amazing creatures better, there may be a far greater chance of changing attitudes around how they are bred and kept.

Right now, the UK is experiencing the worst rabbit rescue crisis ever. Rescue centres are struggling to cope with the number of rabbits currently being abandoned, mistreated, or surrendered. And with the current regulations around rabbit breeding falling short, this will continue to be the case.

Please can you help us to help rabbits by completing a short survey from RWAF?
