In the heart of Narberth, Pembrokeshire, Kooky Poodle has become a destination for dog lovers, cat lovers and anyone who appreciates colourful interiors, unique gifts and independent Welsh & British brands.

Founded by lifelong animal lover and rescue dog advocate, Abigail Wooding, Kooky Poodle combines a passion for dogs, cats, design and creativity under one roof.

The shop offers a carefully curated collection of gifts, home accessories, pet products and Welsh-made treasures, many sourced from small independent makers across Wales and the UK. But the real stars of the business are the five poodles, four of whom are rescue, who come to work every day.

Rupert, Ruby, Ralph, Ron and Dennis – alongside ginger cat, Percy – are the personalities behind the brand. Customers regularly visit to see the dogs, who can usually be found snoozing behind the counter, watching the world go by or charming visitors.

The inspiration for Kooky Poodle came from Ruby, a rescue dog with a particularly quirky personality. Caring for rescue dogs led Abigail into dog grooming, specialising in nervous and traumatised dogs, before eventually opening a high street shop celebrating the special bond between people and their pets.

Each dog has developed a loyal following of their own. Ralph has favourite customers he demands attention from; Ruby is always hopeful for treats, Ron enjoys watching customers and even the shop’s CCTV screens, while Dennis, affectionately nicknamed “ASBO”, prefers admiration from a distance.

Today, Kooky Poodle stocks its own label Welsh-made wool blankets, throws and cushions, natural dog treats, locally made dog accessories, handmade gifts, homewares and carefully selected British and international brands.
