Danish pet food company, Globe Buddy, has launched two new functional dog treats, Luxx Easy and Luxx Energy, which combine insect-based protein with targeted nutritional benefits. The products aim to solve a common dilemma for dog owners; choosing between what’s good for their dog and what’s better for the planet.

The new treats are made with protein from black soldier fly larvae, a highly digestible alternative to traditional animal proteins. In addition to being suitable for dogs with sensitive digestion, insect protein requires significantly fewer natural resources than conventional livestock production, offering a lower environmental footprint.

Bjarne Gravesen Jensen, co-founder of Globe Buddy commented,

“We believe the future of pet food will look very different from the past.

“Insect protein allows us to offer real functional benefits for dogs while significantly reducing the environmental impact — and that combination is becoming increasingly important to dog owners.”

Luxx Easy is formulated to support calmness and balance, with ingredients such as L-tryptophan, chamomile, and valerian root. Luxx Energy is designed for active dogs, with ingredients including L-carnitine, electrolytes, and minerals that contribute to normal energy metabolism and recovery.

Both products are grain-free and produced as soft, semi-moist treats designed for palatability and everyday use, including training, travel, and other routine situations.

For a growing number of dog owners, what’s in the bowl now reflects the same concerns they have about their own food.

Insect protein and it’s environmental impact

  • Insect farming uses significantly less land and water than traditional livestock production
  • Black soldier fly larvae can be fed on side streams from the food industry, supporting a more circular production model
  • Lifecycle assessments, including peer-reviewed studies on black soldier fly protein, show a substantially lower greenhouse gas footprint compared to conventional animal proteins

The treats will be available to view at the Interzoo exhibition in Nuremberg, Germany, between 12 –15 May.
